Scottish Library 2nd October
Hello Stephen,
Rather than make the decision for you, I’m attaching not-very-good scans of 8 of the photos of Leonora Lang. If you let me know which 2 you’d like I’ll arrange to have good quality scans made of them. Though they’re not numbered, you can give them imaginary numbers of 1-8 and I’ll hopefully know which 2 you want ... Most of the photos are uncaptioned, but in no.2 she’s dressed as the Empress Josephine and in nos 3 and 4 as Mrs Malaprop. No 1 is probably the most folk-loreish, but is uncaptioned.
The 2 images can either be copied to CD as TIFFs and posted out to you, or we can send them as high-quality JPEGs via an ftp account. And I’ll need your postal address to send the invoice (and CD, if that’s your choice). We also require that you complete one of our order forms for copyright reasons.
Best wishes,
Sally

Hello Sally,
Thank you for getting back to me so promptly.
Acc.13025/3
Photographs, c 1880-1920. Mainly studio photographs of Leonora Lang,
including some in costume for amateur theatrical productions; with 4
photographs of Andrew Lang.
I would like 2 photographs of Leonora Lang for illustrative purposes.
One studio portrait (not profile if possible).
One of the theatrical costume photographs
(the closest you can come to a fairy tale or folklore costume would be wonderful!)
Thank you ever so much.

Dear Mr Bamford,
Thanks for your enquiry. We could supply digital scans of the photographs in Acc.13025/3, but it will be quite expensive at £10 per medium-resolution scan (+ VAT ...). There are 17 photographs altogether, 12 of Leonora Lang, 4 of Andrew Lang and 1 of an unidentified older lady, probably a relation. Are you just looking for one good image of LL to illustrate your lecture?
If it's not inconvenient, would you mind replying direct to my e-mail address? s.harrower@nls.uk
Yours sincerely,
